VANCOUVER – Learning that less is more when it comes to links. Compared to the temporary insanity of GME’s surging stock price, this week felt decidedly more squishy. On Monday, robo-revolutionary Evan Rachel Wood shocked almost nobody with confirmation that the abuser she referenced in 2018 Congressional testimony was indeed Marilyn Manson. Then on Tuesday we learned bug-eyed billionaire Jeff Bezos is leaving Amazon to pursue the rich-guy passion project of sending shit into space. Wednesday brought indignation over Chrissy Teigen’s wine choices, and the Hollywood Foreign Press giving Emily in Paris a big, big pass. And yesterday, we learned that even iconic Canadian broadcasters aren’t safe in this ever changing media landscape.
Here on Bute Street, we marked Stu cat’s one-year anniversary with a specially commissioned portrait. Currently in transit from NYC to YVR. No tracking number, no insurance. Nothing to do but sit and wait for our picture of Stu.

(Amanda is probably my favourite living music writer. Her pieces always carefully considered, and unflinchingly objective. I didn’t read a ton about Manson this week, but the candour and self-reflection displayed in this article put it heads above the rest. The last graf in particular emphasizes that the most horrific secrets are often hidden in plain sight.)
Superstar Cities Are in Trouble
(I’ve spent a lot of time wondering what work will look like when this is all over. My money is still on coastal hubs, especially in Canada. But it’s interesting to think that little pockets of enterprise could be spread all across the country – or even the continent.)

(“Residents at 432 Park complained of creaking, banging and clicking noises in their apartments, and a trash chute ‘that sounds like a bomb’ when garbage is tossed”)
(She posted an ad for a roommate. What’s the worst that could happen?)
Six arrested after changing Hollywood sign to ‘Hollyboob
(“This is an icon that’s there for visual reinforcement of the importance of Hollywood, not just for the city of L.A. but to the world,”)
